FAQs

After nearly 10 years, the name switches from Hamachi to Lyfe Bitez...

Author's note: I felt as if Hamachi wasn’t fitting to the series. Sure, Hamachi was in almost every episode. However, the series didn’t solely revolve around her. It was about everyone else, too. Most of the episodes also revolved around real life experiences that I, myself, have had, someone I know has had, or something going on in real life that I thought the characters should experience.

The only thing that changed (other than the name) was the location. Everyone used to live in houses in a neighborhood. Now, everyone lives in a mobile home park. I made this change because moved into a mobile home in a mobile home park. My hope is to address the negative stigma regarding mobile homes in the series.

I also wanted the series to be more inclusive. There isn’t enough representation out there these days. I know I won’t cover it all, however, I’m trying my best. The series was always inclusive, however, I want to make it more diverse. I want readers to feel as if they can relate to one, or many, of the characters. I want people to feel like they’re not alone. I also want them to learn about others' struggles. Not everyone is straight, gay, black, white, rich, poor, whatever. This comic is DIVERSE. The world isn’t just black and white, it’s full of color!

How was Lyfe Bitez (Hamachi) created?

I don't remember specifically. I know I was 12 in 7th grade in my anime phase. "Hamachi" is actually Japanese for fish.

Have you ever lost motivation for Lyfe Bitez (Hamachi)?

A few times. It died out in 2012 when I started high school and my fan base disappeared. I made a new friend named Rosa in 2016 who wanted to see my characters. Lyfe Bitez (Hamachi) was then revived as has been thriving until recently. Work and school are now responsible for my lack of content.

How was the original series?

Hamachi, Wuddles and Thun were boys. The series had totally different characters. Everyone was either a God or a Goddess and had a special power. Hamachi, Wuddles and Thun were trying to find out what happened to their parents. They were aliens and all their friends were, too.

When did Lyfe Bitez (Hamachi) switch from more serious content to what it is now?

The plot changed in 2016. I wanted the series to be funny. I added my friends into the series with my characters. When they liked it, and I posted it on social media, I knew that the new plot had to stay. The original comic focused on the backstory. Now it's just slap-stick, slice of life, comedy and relatable content.

How do you come up with content?

I usually make a comic about whatever is trending. I made a few comics on coronavirus. I made a comic about Yanny vs Laurel when it was popular. Most of the time, I just randomly think of a scenario and have my characters react to it.

Will Lyfe Bitez (Hamachi) ever be published?

Hopefully within the next few years.  Most of the comics are black and white and written on lined paper. I would have to digitize and slightly desensitize them (times have changed).

What type of jokes do you write about?

Most jokes are made to insult another character. I try not to add too many political, sex or triggering jokes as a precaution. Very rarely, the characters will joke about politics because Hamachi is a Republican and Thun is a Democrat. There are no race jokes in the comics. I like to refer to the series as South Park or Family Guy without the race jokes. There are some fat jokes, but they're comedic, not offensive.

How are the characters/content relatable?

The target audience is older teenagers and young adults. I try to include common struggles such as school. I include more common topics topics such as LGBT and Mental Health Awareness Month. Here is a list of what each character identifies as, struggles with, and/or represents. More information on each character can be found on the "characters" page. Are the characters into politics?

They have been in some political scenarios. For the most part, no. Hamachi uses Trump as an insult and often makes Trump jokes or comparisons.  I try not to put too much politics in this universe because we all need a break from it.

Would you turn it into an animated series?

Hopefully in the future. It could be either a kid's show or an Adult Swim type of show.

Most of the content is in black and white...

Yes. I didn't start doing digital art until recently. I was never able to afford a tablet, so the comics are mostly done traditionally. To combat the way the content appears, I mention that anything digital is a "real life photo" of the characters and anything black and white or on lined paper is cut from a diary that documents their behavior and experiences. No one seems to mind.

Do the characters age?

Yes, very slowly. In the original series, the characters didn't really have an age. Since 2016, they were given ages. Hamachi started off as being 11, Wuddles was 10 and Thun was 9. Every year or two, they'd age. I also "edited" some ages to have more characters in a certain age group (they're separated: the "young group" is aged 10 and under. The "older group" is aged 11 and over).  The youngest character is Cranberry, age 6 months. The oldest character is Miles, aged 15. The humans don't really count as characters because they are real people (except for Dordandi and the other human children, they are fictional).

Hamachi and Marfy seem to be the most popular characters in their age groups. They also have their own series. Will they be separate in the future?

Most likely. Marfy and the younger kids will be geared towards children and tweens. Hamachi and the older kids will be geared towards older teenagers and young adults. Each group will make appearances in the other's series respectively.

Is there anything that is more appropiate for children?

Yes. As mentioned above, this series is geared towards older teens and young adults. Marfy now has his own series (it has always existed, it's just less public) and website. Link is below:
